welcome

(this is a movie)

it is unknown when the first Tamborrada occured in the streets of San Sebastian. Some attribute its origin to the drumbeat made on buckets by maids and their companions, artisans, and soldiers, while waiting for their turn at one of the three fountains that supplied San Sebastian with water in 1836. The people were put into uniform. Every year, at 3:30 in the morning they would come out in there new uniforms looking good and fancy

The fiesta starts on the  JANUARY 20 AT MIDNIGHT when the flag is raised by the "Gaztelubide" Tamborrada in the  Town Hall, which is now the Town Library, found in the "Constitución" Square. For 24 hours the town is a fiesta of drums and barrels. The music by Sarriegui can be heard in all parts during this time. At midnight of the next day "Unión Artesana" Tamborrada is in charge of lowering down the flag and finishing the fiesta.

the kids tamborrada-On the 20th January 1927 the Children's Tamborrada, or Marching Drum Band Competition for Children, marched along San Sebastian streets for the first time. The Children's Tamborrada grows bigger every year. Recently, they have created new groups for all of the children, just to accommodate the large number of kids that have shown up.

the fiesta
-The fiesta has been growing at a faster rate , which is you can see from the increasing number of adults: in 1967 the were 10 tamborradas. in 1992, 54 tamborradas, and in 2006, 97 tamborradas.they march over all the town quarters for 24 hours. There is always a tamborrada beating their drums and barrels somewhere during this time.

seems to be more correct that the Tamborrada was one of the groups of the San Sebastian Carnival. As with many Spanish traditions, the origin of La Tamborrada is a bit twisted. It appears as though in 1720 a baker was filling water barrels from a fountain near the Iglesia de San Vicente. While filling the barrels he began to sing, and a group of young girls passing by started banging on the barrels as accompaniment. A crowd started to gather and this impromptu jam session evolved into the spectacle you see today.
